One of the first 100 new top level domain names to enter the Internet root zone, the .CLUB extension has consistently ranked among the Top 10 of most popular new extensions to be applied for during registrar pre-registration periods over the past several months, making it the first top level domain to come to market that has mainstream global appeal.

In order to participate in the Sunrise period, the trademark must have been submitted to and validated by the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH), which is a centralized database of verified trademarks maintained by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which is the international organization responsible for managing and coordinating the Domain Name System (DNS).

.CLUB’s Trademark Sunrise period will last 60 days, at which time registrants will be awarded their new .CLUB web addresses. “This has been a long, stressful, and emotional process for myself and the team at .CLUB,” said Colin Campbell, CEO and founder of .CLUB.  “We are so excited to have signed the agreement after more than two years of hard work. From the beginning we had only one focus – to help people who have similar passions and interests come together, and to create a new social top-level domain that makes it easy for companies, individuals and communities of all kinds to brand themselves with a great domain name. “

The process to acquire a new top level domain requires applicants to pay a fee of $185,000, but for the more popular names, the process gets more complicated, as was the case with .CLUB.  The applicants are required to resolve contention if more than one party applied for the same name and endure a long vetting process by ICANN, and the Government Advisory Committee (GAC), who has representatives from over 50 countries. “The entire process is a `Hunger Games’ style fight with only one company standing at the end of the day,” added Campbell.  “To date we have already spent more than $5 million on a private auction, legal fees and market awareness campaigns. “

The company was one of the first to participate in a historic private auction beating other companies including California-based Donuts, an applicant that has stated they raised over $100 million and registered 307 applications, and Merchant Law Group of Canada who registered 8 different names. .CLUB only applied for one domain name.

Global registrars encouraged to begin selling one of first new gTLD’s to hit the market next year

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – July x, 2013 — .Club Domains, LLC, which last month won the rights to the new generic top level domain (gTLD) name “.CLUB,” has announced its sponsorship of the ICANN47 meeting in Durban, South Africa being held July 14-18, 2013.  .Club will be meeting with registrars from around the globe to be among the first to register the new .CLUB domain to membership organizations, affinity groups, clubs and more to create websites where like-minded people can come together, get information and share interests.

The .CLUB name was obtained last month in the first private auction to be completed since ICANN began the new gTLD process.  It signaled a historic step forward as the global Internet expands beyond the current 21 generic top-level domain names, including .com and .net.  The company also completed a $7 million funding round in June, bringing the company’s total investment to date to $8.2 million. .Club’s CEO Colin Campbell is the founder of Tucows and Hostopia and has extensive experience building and growing successful technology and Internet companies.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – June 6, 2013 — The Internet domain game got a new player today as .Club Domains, LLC has won the rights to the new generic top level domain (gTLD) name .CLUB.   The .CLUB name was obtained in the first private auction to be completed since ICANN began the new gTLD process and signals a historic step forward as the global Internet expands beyond the current 21 generic top-level domain names, including .com and .net.

The company also announced that it has exercised its option to complete a $7 million funding round, paving the way for .Club’s CEO Colin Campbell, the founder of Tucows and Hostopia, to bring his experience building and growing successful technology and Internet companies to this next frontier of Internet domains.
